Cover

Will Flood Re cover items that aren’t kept in my property?

No. Flood Re will only reimburse insurers for damage done to contents that were in the property at the time of flooding.

Some policies offer cover for ‘resilient repairs’, will Flood Re handle these?

In some cases yes. If the insurer is signed up to our Build Back Better scheme homeowners may be able to install Property Flood Resilience measures up to the value of £10,000 when repairing their home after a flood.

I want a policy that will cover tools kept at home, can Flood Re help?

Flood Re only deals with flood risks to contents, fixtures and fittings that relate to the residential part of a policy. We would not cover appliances and trade tools used solely for business purposes.

Could my sheds or outbuildings be covered by Flood Re?

Yes. Outbuildings that are ‘enjoyed with’ the main residence can be covered by Flood Re as long as that main residence qualifies. The buildings must not be in a separate council tax band or attract business rates. Also, outbuildings may be covered if they were built after 2009.

Will Flood Re cover damage to my home caused by groundwater flooding?

Yes, Flood Re will pay out on an eligible claim when damage to your home is caused by groundwater flooding. However, the groundwater has to enter your home from the outside and has to do so with substantial and abnormal volume, weight or force. This means that Flood Re will not cover gradual seepage of water such as rising damp.

How do I know if I need Flood Re cover?

Your insurer will tell you if your property needs a policy to cover high risks of flooding.
