Flooding affects hundreds of thousands of properties in Scotland, with over 284,000 currently at risk. And with climate change increasing the risk, preparing for the future has never been more important.

That’s why Flood Re and the Scottish Flood Forum have launched Flo the Flood Bus – a mobile vehicle dedicated to helping communities understand Property Flood Resilience (PFR) and how to better protect their homes and businesses.

What is Flo the Flood Bus?

Flo is a specially designed mobile exhibition vehicle that travels to Scotland’s flood-risk areas – including remote communities – providing accessible advice and resources on flood resilience.

Onboard Flo, you’ll find:

  • Hands-on examples of PFR measures, including non-return valves, flood barriers, automatic airbricks, synthetic sandbags, resilient flooring, and flood-resistant kitchen cabinets.
  • A cutaway showing the construction of a resilient wall to demonstrate how homes can be adapted.
  • Low-cost maintenance tips, such as repointing brickwork and sealing gaps, to help keep buildings watertight.
  • Video case studies showing how PFR measures have positively impacted flood victims.
  • Animations and videos explaining interventions and preparing for flooding, including creating a household flood plan and signing up for flood warnings.

Where to find Flo

After its launch at the Scottish Flood Resilience Conference on 28–29 January 2025, Flo will spend February and early March in and around Perth, supporting local engagement near the Water’s Rising Exhibition at Perth Museum.

From mid-March 2025 onwards, Flo will hit the road, visiting flood-risk communities across Scotland where the Scottish Flood Forum is actively working. Flo will also take part in events hosted by key flood resilience partners, helping to bring vital advice and resources to those who need it most.

If you’d like to invite Flo to an event, please email info@scottishfloodforum.org

Have you been affected by flooding?

Flooding can cause serious damage, but with Flood Re’s Build Back Better initiative, eligible homeowners can receive up to £10,000 as part of their insurance claim. This fund is designed to support home improvements that exceed basic repairs, focusing on enhancing the property’s resilience or resistance against future floods.
