I can’t get a quote from an insurer on your list, how can this happen?

The decision to use Flood Re scheme remains with the insurance provider. Please contact your insurer if you have more questions about this. We encourage everyone to shop around, making sure they find the right cover for their situation – an affordable and suitable policy.

Who decided that my home is in a flood risk area?

Eligibility for Flood Re does not mean that your home is automatically at risk of flooding. The decision to use Flood Re for your policy remains with your insurance provider. Please contact your insurer if you have more questions about this.

Why has my insurance premium more than doubled for no reason?

Flood Re does not set prices, insurers do. Please speak to your insurer if you have a question about premiums. Our Guide to Buying Home Insurance may be helpful, too. We encourage everyone to shop around, making sure they find the right cover for their situation – an affordable and suitable policy.

What is the difference between tax, levy and duty

A tax is a financial charge on individuals or businesses collected by the Government. It’s used to pay for public spending. A duty is a type of tax that’s charged specifically on the value of goods and services, such as VAT. A levy is an obligatory payment to the Government or another organisation.

Will Flood Re cover damage to my home caused by groundwater flooding?

Yes, Flood Re will pay out on an eligible claim when damage to your home is caused by groundwater flooding. However, the groundwater has to enter your home from the outside and has to do so with substantial and abnormal volume, weight or force. This means that Flood Re will not cover gradual seepage of water such as rising damp.

Which properties are excluded from the Flood Re Scheme?

Our Flood Re tool may help you to see if a specific property can’t be covered by Flood Re. Ultimately though, the decision to make use of the Flood Re Scheme for eligible properties remains with insurance providers. Please contact your insurers if you have more questions about excluded properties.
