Flood Re appoints Andy Bord as interim Chief Executive

January 16, 2017

Andy will join Flood Re on 23 January 2017 and will replace Brendan McCafferty with effect from 10 February

London, UK – Andy Bord, formerly CEO at Capita Insurance Services, has been appointed as interim CEO of Flood Re. Mr Bord is an experienced business leader with strong insurance and telecommunications expertise.

Having previously worked for Capita, Staysure, BGL Group (owners of CompareTheMarket) and Vodafone UK, Mr Bord brings a significant amount of appropriate experience in high-profile, consumer-facing businesses to the role. Mr Bord will join Flood Re on Monday 23 January and have a full handover from Brendan McCafferty, the current CEO, prior to taking over from Brendan on 10 February. Andy’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Flood Re was set up to enable people living in areas at risk of flooding to access affordable flood insurance. In its first six months in operation, the Scheme had taken on over 53,000 policies. The number of insurance providers signed up to support the scheme is now at 41, a 156% rise from the 16 who were on board on at launch in April 2016. These 41 insurance providers represent 90% of the overall home insurance market.

Mark Hoban, Chairman of Flood Re, said:

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Andy to Flood Re at such an exciting time. Flood Re is in good shape as we approach the Scheme’s first anniversary, ready for the next phase of its development with a very strong executive team.

“Andy has a strong knowledge of the insurance sector and he has worked as both a permanent and an interim Chief Executive. His strong consumer background and experience of working in complex regulated environments will be particularly helpful as we continue our efforts to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the Scheme.

“We have appointed headhunters to find the right person for the full-time Chief Executive role and expect to have them in position by the summer.”

Andy Bord, interim Chief Executive at Flood Re, commented:

“Flood Re has so far helped tens of thousands of people get access to affordable flood insurance but there is still more to do. There is a clear plan and I am excited about joining the team to continue taking the Scheme forward in the coming months.”

Odgers Berndtson have been appointed to find the permanent Chief Executive and the search is underway.
